Code of Conduct

CodeChix is a non-profit organization dedicated to the Education, Advocacy and Mentoring of women engineers in industry and academia. CodeChix is the force behind DevPulseCon, a technical and educational conference focused on women engineers and technologists such as Product/Program/Project managers working in the tech industry.

We at CodeChix want all DevPulseCon attendees to have an enjoyable and fulfilling experience. Accordingly, all attendees are expected to show respect and courtesy to other attendees throughout the conference.

To make clear what is expected, all attendees, speakers, organizers, and volunteers at DevPulseCon are required to conform to the following Code of Conduct.

Overview

DevPulseCon is dedicated to providing a harassment-free conference experience for everyone, regardless of gender, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, or religion. We do not tolerate harassment of conference participants in any form.

DevPulseCon centers the experiences of women working in technical industries.

All communication should be appropriate for a professional audience including people of many different backgrounds.

Be kind to others. Do not insult or put down other attendees. Behave professionally. Remember that harassment and sexist, racist, transphobic, or exclusionary jokes are not appropriate for DevPulseCon.

Attendees violating these rules may be asked to leave the conference without a refund at the sole discretion of CodeChix.

Thank you for helping make this a welcoming, friendly event for all.

Details

Harassment includes offensive verbal comments related to gender, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, religion, sexual images in public spaces, deliberate intimidation, stalking, following, harassing photography or recording, sustained disruption of talks or other events, inappropriate physical contact, and unwelcome sexual attention.

“Women” includes anyone who identifies as a woman in a way that is significant to her, not limited by assignment at birth, chromosomes, hormonal balance, body shape, or clothing choice.

Discussion related to discriminatory language and other forms of oppression experienced by women in technical industries is on-topic provided it is presented in a respectful manner (especially towards transgender women and non-binary-gendered people), and attendees are given ample warning and opportunity to leave beforehand or otherwise disengage. This exception specifically does not allow use of gratuitous sexual image as attention-getting devices or unnecessary examples.

Participants asked to stop any harassing behavior are expected to comply immediately.

If a participant engages in behavior that violates this code of conduct, CodeChix may take any action they deem appropriate, including warning the offender or expulsion from the conference with no refund.

If you are being harassed, notice that someone else is being harassed, or have any other concerns, please contact a member of the CodeChix organizing staff. You can email info@codechix.org or speak to any organizer or volunteer (identified by nametags) in person.
